Armenian publishing house in Venice

The first Armenian printing house was established in Venice, 1512. This was one of the most significant events in Armenian cultural life in 16th century. First Armenian publisher was Hakob Meghapart who has published the first printed book in Armenian “Urbatagirq” (Friday book) in 1512, Venice.

Biographical Dictionaries

The first Armenian biographical dictionary was “Kensagrakan Yereveli Aranc” by Mateos Maghaq-Teophilyanci made in two volumes (Vince, 1839). It includes biographies of foreigners as well as biographies of several Armenian historical figures, mostly spiritual leaders.
